Perseverance has definitely brought me here. When I took my first photos, I had no idea that my life would take a turn towards the visual arts. I did not imagine being here today.
We photographers document moments that will not be repeated. Every lived moment that we capture in a photograph will be part of the history that we live.
Each photo I take is the story told through my camera, of the way I see and live that moment. The beauty of photography is that we can see the same thing in a different way. Each photographer has a different vision and this is mine, told in images.
Giving Pope Francisco a book edited by me and with my photos has been one of the greatest achievements in my working life, but also having been in front of His Holiness and shaking his hand has been the greatest thing in my personal life.
Exhibiting my work in Rome and showing how Guatemalans live a Holy Week full of colors, flavors and smells, but above all a faith that can be photographed is another of the achievements of which I am proud, because I love my country, my traditions and the fervor that we chapines live!
I am a photographer who learned by trial and error, putting a little more, raising the ISO to find out what was happening, slowing down, but above all, spoiling.
I have lived many experiences, moments that have marked my life, beautiful and not so beautiful, sad, emotional, but without a doubt, this has been one of the most important, giving Pope Francisco a book with photos taked by me, explaining how to live Holy Week at La Escuela de Cristo, Antigua Guatemala. There I learned a lot about what I know about photography and video today.
The moments are not repeated and the stories that we write in our lives, neither. I learned through trial and error and continue to learn every day. I am a photographer of those that we have done in the school of life, playing with my camera and tasting what happened.
I have been able to venture into different areas of photography. It is a benevolent career that offers very different fields. I have worked product photography for different companies, food photography for restaurants and hotels, architectural photography for buildings and real estate, aerial photography, events, commercial photography and sacred and tradition photography.
I have also made audiovisual productions for companies and national organizations and for some institutions in the United States. Also documentaries, commercials and different productions of the sacred theme and Guatemalan traditions. Some of them have traveled and been used for performances in Germany and Italy.
I have had the opportunity to document the interior of the country by conducting community consultations, which has enriched the way I see my country and of course, to see life.
Every new job is a challenge, every new job is a blessing!
During the pandemic caused by Covid-19, a group of Guatemalans decided to take the responsibility of being support for those who did not have food. They were a blessing for many because for five months, they shared food with thousands of people. I had the great opportunity to document part of this process and like each job, it was learning, but above all, it was a kind of humility and fellowship among Guatemalans.
Proud to receive this recognition for the production of the documentary "La Olla Comunitaria", representing Guatemala.
